Jack Rabid is the founder, editor and publisher for 29 years to date of the respected semi-annual music magazine The Big Takeover, and has written regularly for many other publications, such as Spin, Village Voice, Interview, Trouser Press Guide, Alternative Press, Creem, Rockpool, AllMusicGuide, Ice, Musichound, Emusic, Stereotype, Maximum Rock n Roll, East Village Eye, CD Now, Jam TV, Hit List, and Amp; he also regularly blogs at bigtakeover.com.

A late '70s punk rocker/New York scene member as a teen hailing from suburban Summit, NJ, he was/is the drummer for Springhouse—— hurrah!—— having previously drummed for 1980-1984 New York punk rock band Even Worse (who released an LP retrospective and reunited for two CBGB gigs in 2002), and early '00s post-punk group Last Burning Embers (who also released an LP). He also toured in 1986 with Los Angeles's SST act Leaving Trains, and one filled in for an entire Circle Jerks set in 1983 in New York. On the radio, he is the weekly host of Big Takeover on Breakthruradio.com and had previously been heard on the syndicated radio music show Music View as well as Vancouver's The Joe Show and Cincinnati's WOXY, plus two regular college radio stints for WJRH and WNYU (where he also hosted the game show, Pop Quiz). In the movies, he has appeared in several film documentaries such as American Hardcore, King of Punk, and The Shield Around the K, and on TV on three MTV News special reports. In the clubs, he has DJed several hundred rock shows in Manhattan since 1979, including the legendary "Rock Hotel" punk rock shows. He also oversees a small record label, Pink Frost/Big Takeover Records.

After 25 years in the East Village of Manhattan, which he now disdains, he lives in Brooklyn with his wife, one-year-old son, and cat, eager to talk politics, history, economics, sports, and music with all comers!
